PRODUCTION
Nigeria is a major producer of ginger. Nigerian ginger is grown in 22 states, with a production focus in five states. Global demand for Nigerian ginger is very high due to the freshness of its ginger, with good aroma, pungency, and high oil and oleoresin content. Another good attribute of Nigerian ginger is that it tends to be organic because it is planted using cow or poultry droppings as natural fertilizers.
Nigerian ginger is exported to the rest of the world as split and sun-dried. Occasionally, based on the demand, Nigerian ginger’s exportation is done as fresh and natural, but exportation is done once the harvest cycle has been completed due to a shorter shelf life.
